This week, as we enter the last week of classes, things should be looking more black and white, with fewer areas of fuzz.
For your assignment, take a picture — it could be one you’ve already taken or a totally new one — and turn it black and white. Sure, it’s a stereotypical beginner’s photo trick … but we’re stereotypical beginners, right? Have fun with it and explain where the photo is and what losing all of the color did to the photo.
This picture is taken somewhere in Lake Wales on Alternate 27 just north of downtown. Removing the color, I think, brings out a bleakness to the image, but it also blends a little timelessness and anonymity. There are buildings like this all over the country; this building could be in any town at any time in history.
